E-mail Print PDF
My dear friends,

As you all know, on the 28th of August 2010 till the 4th of September, the 1st SportAccord World Combat Games were held in Beijing.

The following 13 recognized by SportAccord Martial Arts Federations took part:

Aikido, Boxing, Ju-Jitsu, Judo, Karate, Kendo, Kick boxing, Muay Thai, Sambo, Sumo, Tae kwon do, Wrestling, Wushu

The sports were carried out in different spaces while the Opening Ceremony took place in the Olympic Athletic Stage of Beijing. The Opening Ceremony was on the 28th of August and was an Olympic Ceremony worthy.

1025 Athletes from 106 countries gave their best, for the claim of a golden medal and having their names written in history as the first winners of the Combat Games.

The Ju-Jitsu fights were held in the Beijing University of Science & Technology Gymnasium. The stage was exceptional and it filled the highest specifications for the conduction of high class fights. Please find attached photos.

Our federation invited 96 athletes 14 referees 3 technicals 1 doctor and 4 officials. At this point I would like to point out that JJIF was the only federation with so many athletes, after the decision of B. D. to minimize the number of officials and referees to the absolute essential so as more athletes can be invited.

All of them gave their best self and their performance was most decent. We must notice that their opponents were athletes with many years of experience and championships in their asset, while many of them held world titles. The technical level was exceptionally high.

Beside the inexperience of our athletes, what was also obvious is their lack of attendances in big organizations and that showed from their first fights.

I am very satisfied with their performance on the tatami and they all gained unique experience that will help them in the future events.

I left last the athlete from Algeria who was a particularly pleasant surprise, not only to me but to all who have observed his fights.

Therefore in International Competitions, the first medal for Africa in Ju-Jitsu Fighting System was brought by Algeria with its athlete Ali Smail in the -85kg category. I want to send my warmest congratulations to the athlete, his trainer, to the members of B. D. of the Algerian Federation and to his family. I wish this medal opens the way for continuous successes for African Athletes in International Championships.

My dear friends, I will point out the very good appearance of all our athletes for one more time as well as their bad luck in certain draw cases (Tunisian Duo Mix first fight was with the European champion couple).

In 2 months we have the Ju-Jitsu World Championship in St. Petersburg Russia. I hope that Africa will be there with more athletes than Beijing and more medals.

Best regards to all of you and congratulations again.
